The inadvertent expat blogger behind Elqas Tori Vane

Hi, I am Sophie
Project manager. Parent. Expat living in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life overseas.
How It Began
Moving to Netherlands wasn't in the grand plan for the long run. As with many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far greater.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and rising expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complex than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Phase
Culture shock, ambiguity, and a lot of learning by doing were part of it. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Created Elqas Tori Vane
Most information online was either corporate relocation tips or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Netherlands.
What This Website Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- A paid-review platform
- A generic travel blog
Moving Forward
Our stay in Netherlands continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue recording what we find.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Sophie
